Monica and Ray Sommerville

Monica Sommerville first came into contact with clay during her senior year at Notre Dame Catholic High School. With guidance from her teacher, pottery offered Monica an oportunity to think about her life and her "call". After moving to the Lehigh Valley in 1986, she continued to develop as a potter while working in the non -profit sector and raising two daughters with her husband, Ray.

Monica received training on the wheel from two Allentown potters, Rick Hoffman and Bill Clark, before setting up her home studio in 1996. She finds that the pottery process allows her to center and find a quiet space to reflect and rest. Monica serves as the Director of an Allentown-based nonprofit, Congregations United For Neighborhood Action, and she is one of the co-owners of "Out Of Our Hands" a fine-craft store located in Emmaus, PA. Her pottery is wheel-thrown stoneware glazed in a variety of earth-tone glazes. Each piece is functional, dishwasher safe, and very durable. Wholesale prices are available upon request.
